After The Hurt (2014)

And then the house grumbled and groaned and roared and every person of the hundred thousand – and every thing – was thrown up in the air – and it twirled and swirled and we went owwwwwwww and yaaaaaaaaa and when it stopped this is where we all landed… in this house-shop-mosque-flat-bakery-school-tree-truck-plastic-market-ocean-thing.

In duos, four mothers and their daughters tell how they ended up under this pile of rubble in the first play written after the war on Gaza in the summer of 2014. With help from each other, these eight women are modern clowns, tell, play, and imagine the story of each other’s life. It is a war-comedy, an expression, a creative compilation, of true war stories collected from children throughout the Gaza Strip following the war. The absurdity and tragic truth of the stories as well as of the situation on the ground asked for a form of expression that combines the tragic and the absurd.
